7. Bingo

Bingo! Got a date! Well not a date date – Clare wouldn’t be too happy about that. But got a date for surgery at St Mark’s – Sunday 19th May.

Odd as I came away from the St Marks meeting and spoke to a few people. I repeated that the specialist had said it could be a week, but I also said until I get a date I don’t want to give up the local hospital. I suggested there could be all kinds of delays at St Marks, there could be a fire in the theatre, it could be being refitted, there could be any number of problems. Turns out the NHS theatre is being refurbished and so the private one is being used by NHS patients. Hence the delay and hence the Sunday date.

Sometimes you just want to be wrong. I’m sure Clare would remind me of the once – some years ago – that I might have been mistaken – not wrong of course – just mistaken. But then…. maybe… there are a few more times that may have happened – in fact I find it one of life’s pleasures to be corrected by your children or beaten in a game. You can’t lose then. You win – you win. You lose – you still win, they are your children and you can be immensely proud of them.

So, as anyone that knows about the change curve knows, I’m coming up from the bottom (hmmm not sure about the phrasing of that in this context).  If I wanted any further confirmation that St Mark’s is the right place, then one of my good mates I spoke to recently was with the chairman of a large NHS Trust, this chap had had bowel cancer 10+ years ago. In his opinion St Mark’s is the best.

So – couldn’t have got a quicker date, couldn’t have a better place.
